HELP!! Having problems with database loosing stuff!

Steve-Franklin
My NWS is still stable and nothing is crashing but there seem to be a lot of issues with the database getting messed up. Items are turning up missing and things we put out disappear on restart. Also making an OAR file comes up with a bunch of missing assets as it is made. Apparently there is corruption in the database. It also won't save the database in NWS now. It gives an empty warning and makes a 0KB file on the HD.  I did manage to make a backup of the DB with PHPMYADMIN that might be ok. Things are getting kinda screwy there with things disappearing and loosing textures and stuff!

My questions are these:
1. Is there a program to fix a corrupted database? How do I get it?
2. If I redo everything how do I redo the database from the backup- or is it even worth it considering if it is corrupted?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance from Steve

Computer: Toshiba AMDx2/64 at about 2GHZ with 2GB ram running a stripped down XP Pro with .net 3.5 basically. Not much of a computer but it should work!

P.S. Please people post your questions and answers in English here as this might have been answered in French but I do not read French! Everything in one language would work much better! Thanks!

Hi Franklin,

My questions are these:
1. Is there a program to fix a corrupted database? How do I get it?

You should google for your problem as it is related to MySQL it seems.

2. If I redo everything how do I redo the database from the backup- or is it even worth it considering if it is corrupted?

You should look for help online related to the MySQL command line for mysqld and backups/restores...

So far this is not related to New World Studio which is nothing more than a graphical user interface starting or stopping OpenSim. If you have a lot of objets/scripts in your simulator, I would think about upgrading your hardware or hosting on a server.

Hi Olish and thanks for the answer!

It is most likely not NWS that is doing this, but the fact still remains that when trying to back up with NWS it just makes a 0KB backup. So NWS is not backing up the database. Any ideas on what may be causing this? It is not some thing I can look up on Google! Smiles....

The other thing that is interesting is that opensim is still stable- it is not crashing! You would think it would crash upon seeing holes in the database....

Any ideas are welcome!

Steve,

you can use phpmyadmin to check the database contents. You are probably doing something wrong. MySQL must be running and OpenSimulator should be put offline when making the backup. You can use mysqldump if you have issues with the backup button.

Hi Olish!

I have been checking out phpmyadmin. It does a lot of stuff and evens let you change the database manually. I did manage a backup with PHPMyadmin. That was not hard at all! I cannot find a utility that would check the database for errors or duplicates and fix them. That is what I really need! If I could do that then the database would be fine and I am sure it would all work again.

I have everything backed up now and am going to mess with it so I can learn a few things- I might fix it but I am also thinking that I am going to also redo everything with a smaller lighter version of windoze for it to run on.

Always a new interesting learning experience!

Thanks from Steve!
